CAMPUS SUMMARY
New York Medical College was founded in 1860 by a group of visionary civic leaders in New York who believed that medicine should be practiced with more sensitivity to the needs of patients. The school has grown to become one of the nation’s largest private health sciences universities with a beautiful suburban campus in Westchester County, approximately one-half hour north of New York City. The university has three schools; a School of Medicine that confers the MD degree, a Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, and a Graduate School of Health Sciences, which offers MS, and PhD degrees in 37 programs. The university's network of 22 affiliated hospitals, many of which are located in New York City, becomes the clinical campus for the third and fourth years of medical school. As a health sciences university in the Catholic tradition, the school emphasizes service to underserved populations and recognition of the worth and dignity of each person.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
The medical school is a national leader in educating primary care physicians; it was one of 16 schools awarded major funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support its primary care initiatives. In conjunction with its other two schools, medical students have an opportunity to earn joint degrees, combining the MD with an MPH, which is in great demand in today’s managed care environment, or a PhD in the basic medical sciences.
